Sony Group Enters Crypto Exchange Market with Amber Japan Acquisition

The Japanese corporation Sony Group has formally entered the cryptocurrency exchange industry. This action comes after Amber Japan—formerly known as DeCurret—was acquired. The Japanese division of the international Amber Group, Amber Japan, offers regulated services for exchanging digital assets.

The Japanese corporation Sony Group has formally entered the cryptocurrency exchange industry. This action comes after Amber Japan—formerly known as DeCurret—was acquired. The Japanese division of the international Amber Group, Amber Japan, offers regulated services for exchanging digital assets.  

In 2022, Amber Group acquired DeCurret and renamed it Amber Japan as part of its inaugural expansion into the country.  

Amber Group changed its priorities after FTX failed, and in December 2022 it raised $300 million in a Series C investment. Fenbushi Capital led the round, in which Temasek, Sequoia China, Pantera, Tiger, and Coinbase were among the significant participants. The monies were intended to shield consumers who were impacted by the FTX scandal.  

The most recent acquisition by Sony fits with its plan to diversify its holdings, which is already well-established in the market. value exceeding $100 billion.
