In an interview, Akinola explained the situation. A trader known as The Crypto Network on X (formerly Twitter) intended to send him $100 in Solana tokens as part of a giveaway. However, the trader accidentally transferred 100 SOL, which is approximately 20 million Nigerian nairas ($13,300).

Realizing the mistake, The Crypto Network contacted Akinola and requested the return of 90 SOL. He allowed him to keep 10 SOL as a gesture of goodwill. The Crypto Network expressed astonishment on X when Akinola honored the request and promptly returned the 90 SOL.

When Akinola saw how many SOL tokens had been accidentally transferred to his account, he faced a difficult choice. However, he chose to do the right thing and return them. He explained that his choice was motivated by his Christian faith. Akinola believes that his actions demonstrate hope within the crypto community. This highlights the importance of integrity and trust in transactions and interactions.

Educating and Inspiring the Crypto Community

Akinola hopes his actions will positively impact the perception of Nigerian traders in the global crypto community. He plans to use his newfound fame to create free seminars to educate individuals on cryptocurrency. He emphasized the importance of steering clear of pump-and-dump schemes, which further erode trust within the industry.

The potential pump-and-dump scam by Afro-pop artist Davido had previously alarmed the cryptocurrency community in Nigeria. Some community members allege that Davido used the Timeless Davido (DAVIDO) memecoin, introduced in May, to transfer digital currency to his admirers for the second time in three years.

In 2021, Davido promoted RapDoge and later sold over $300,000 worth of cryptocurrencies to his supporters, leaving them to bear the losses.

The praise and support Akinola received from the crypto community shows the importance of trust and integrity. His actions have not only restored trust but also highlighted the potential for positive change in the industry. By sharing his story and educating others, Akinola aims to build a more trustworthy and ethical crypto community.

In conclusion, Femi Akinola’s honest act of returning the mistakenly sent Solana tokens has had a significant impact on the perception of Nigerian traders in the global crypto community. His actions serve as a reminder of the importance of integrity and trust in the crypto world. Through his efforts to educate others and promote ethical practices, Akinola is helping to create a more trustworthy and positive crypto community.
